Ford produces an entire line of F-series trucks, all of which have a number of mechanical similarities. These steps are specifically intended for replacing the leaf springs on a Ford F-150, and are simple enough for a beginner with the proper equipment to perform in an hour or less. Step 1 Raise your Ford F-150 and support it on safety stands, then remove the wheel and tire nearest the spring you intend to replace. Support the rear axle with a transmission jack or equivalent. Step 2 Remove the retaining nuts from the leaf spring U-bolts; remove the U-bolts and the spring plate. You’ll find a spring spacer in 4×4 models that also needs to be removed.
