Drain baskets can also start to corrode which will cause leaks. To replace a kitchen sink seat basket, you will need to disconnect part of the sink drain line. Once you disconnect the line, you can remove the old basket and set the new sink basket in place. Sink baskets are available at hardware stores, along with the plumbers putty you will need. Step 1 Open up the cabinet doors under the sink and set a bucket under the sink drain trap. The sink trap is the curve piece of pipe that directs the flow of draining water from the sink to the main drain. Step 2 Loosen the slip nut connecting the sink trap to the pipe leading to the main house drain with a pair of channel lock pliers.
