How Do You Replace A Kitchen Sink P-Trap?

0

Replacing a P-Trap under your sink may be a little messy, but isn’t that difficult to do. The trap is used to hold drain water so sewer gases cannot come back up the pipe into your home. However, food particles, grease and small articles can go down the drain and get caught in the trap. This will eventually cause a clog, causing water to drain slowly or not at all. It should only take an hour or so to replace the trap by yourself. Place the bucket under the P-Trap before you begin to take it out, as it does hold some nasty water. You may want to keep some rags handy too. Turn the nut at the top of the U shaped pipe under the sink or the P-Trap counterclockwise. Do not totally disconnect it yet. Turn the other nut the same way and disconnect. Hold the pipe firmly while you finish disconnecting the first nut and pour the water into the bucket when you have it off. Usually these nuts will turn by hand, but if it’s too tight, use slip joint pliers. Fit the new pipe on to the straight pipe
