Home air-conditioning systems utilize wall-mounted thermostats to control the temperature in the building. Without thermostats, air conditioning would provide uncontrolled cooling to the building and temperatures would get too low. Over time, it may become necessary to replace a home air-conditioning thermostat. Luckily, replacing a home air-conditioning thermostat is a fairly easy process and the typical homeowner can usually tackle it with no problems. Turn off the power to the air-conditioning unit by turning off the correct breaker in the circuit breaker panel. Remove the thermostat from the wall plate to gain access to the wiring. It should just pull off with gentle pressure. Disconnect the thermostat wiring from the thermostat. Label each wire with a small piece of tape to denote which lettered terminal it is connected to.
