How Do You Replace A Ford Focus Ignition Switch?

0

The ignition switch in a Ford Focus uses a simple ignition lock and switch mechanism that is secured to the steering column. The switch uses a chip that is coded inside the key, which allows the ignition to be unlocked so that you can start the vehicle. Unfortunately, the Ford Focus has a known faulty design that fails often because of bent tumblers inside the cylinder lock. When it happens, you won’t be able to turn the key to remove the ignition switch. Fortunately, there is a way to replace the switch, even if you can’t get the ignition key into the cylinder or turn the lock. Draw an “X” on the cylinder with a marker to locate and mark the center of the cylinder lock. Drill a 3/8-inch hole into the center of the “X,” drilling down into the ignition switch about 1 inch. Use a pick tool to fish out the lock bar from the ignition switch that prevents the ignition from turning. Turn the ignition switch to the “Run” or “II” position with a flat-head screwdriver.
