How Do You Replace A Drop-In Electric Range?
Drop-in electric ranges look like they are built into your kitchen cabinets and counter tops. They actually sit on two runners in the cabinet. Unlike slide-in or freestanding ranges, the drop-in range is hard-wired into a junction box. Measure the length, width and height of your current range prior to purchasing a new range. You will need to purchase a drop-in range that is the same size or slightly smaller than your existing unit. A larger range will require cutting the counter top. Turn off the circuit breaker connecting the electric range. The circuit breaker will be clearly marked inside the home electrical panel. Open the oven door and remove the racks from the old drop-in range. Ask a friend to assist you to pull the range away from the rear wall enough so that you can access the electrical junction box. One of the rear legs on the range sits in a bracket that prevents the unit from tipping. If your unit will not slide out, push the unit back while lifting the rear of the unit.
