A diving board base weakened by corrosion or sitting at an improper height creates a safety hazard for people using a swimming pool. Replacing a worn or improperly sized diving board base before an accident occurs will benefit both you and the people using the diving board. Corrosion formed on the fasteners holding the diving board base to the pool will increase the difficulty of separating the base from the pool surround. Clean the threaded section of each fastener connecting the diving board to the diving board base and the fasteners holding the base to the pool surround with a wire brush. Wipe the dust from the fasteners with a clean rag. Spray aerosol-penetrating oil on the threads of each cleaned fastener. Allow the penetrating oil to sit on the fasteners for 12 to 24 hours.
