How Do You Replace A CV Boot On A Honda Civic?
The CV boot is part of the drive axle assembly on a Honda Civic. Each axle on the Civic is outfitted with two drive axles. One is the main drive axle and the other is a half shaft. Both are drive axles because they transmit power from the engine/transmission to the wheels. There are two flexible joints on each axle that allows the axle to flex. Without this flexibility, it would be impossible to turn your vehicle without putting excessive stress on the axles, causing them to snap. Over time, however, the protective boot that shields the joint from dirt and debris can tear, which will cause the grease that lubricates the joint to leak out. The joint will begin to dry and grind. Once this happens, the entire axle will need to be replaced. However, if you can catch the problem quickly after the boot rips, you may still be able to save the CV joint from permanent damage. Step 1 Cut the boot retaining straps with a metal cutter and remove the boot. Step 2 Note the position of the inner race
