Occasionally, the cooling fan will become damaged or wear out from use, requiring that it be replaced. Changing the cooling fan is a job that can be completed in less than 30 minutes. You can replace the fan yourself, saving you the money of having a computer technician do the work for you. Unplug the power cord of the computer from the electrical outlet. Remove the screws from the back of the computer case with a screwdriver, setting the screws in a safe place. Slide the cover forward off the computer case so you can access the interior of the cabinet. Locate the cooling fan on the inside of the computer back wall. Unfasten the screws on the outside of the computer case in the back that hold the cooling fan to the case with a screwdriver.
