For example, the internal clock that keeps the date and time is powered by the CMOS battery. So if the current time on the clock display erases every time you turn off the computer, chances are the CMOS battery needs to be replaced. Turn off the laptop and remove the AC adapter. Remove the battery from its compartment on the bottom of the computer. Turn the laptop over and remove the screws holding the DVD drive in place with the appropriate screwdriver and pull out the DVD drive. Remove the remaining screws on the bottom of the computer with a screwdriver. These screws secure the wireless card cover, the memory card cover and the modem card cover.
