Learn how to replace a defective pump so you can get back on the road fast. Loosen the drive belt and slip the belt over the pulley. Use a suction gun to suck out as much power steering fluid as possible. Place a drain pan under the pump and disconnect the lines and fluid return hose. You may need to remove the air cleaner housing to access the return hose. Allow everything to drain completely. Cap the ends of all the lines to prevent leakage. Remove the mounting fasteners and detach the pump from the engine. You should be able to pull it free from the car completely and take a moment to inspect it and see what went wrong.
