How Do You Replace A Camshaft Position Sensor?
The camshaft position sensor, mounted in the engine block of most vehicles, transmits information to the vehicle’s main computer. This information is used to insure that the engine has the correct air-to-fuel ratio and is ignited by the ignition system at the correct time. A faulty camshaft position sensor may cause hard starting, rough engine running or no start at all. The camshaft position sensor can be replaced in just a few minutes. Locate the camshaft position sensor, which is usually mounted at the front of the engine block and has a wiring harness connector plugged into it. Unplug the wiring harness connection from the sensor. Push in the release tabs on the connector while pulling it away from the sensor. Loosen and remove the bolt that secures the sensor to the engine block with an adjustable wrench turned in a counterclockwise direction. Set the bolt aside for installation of the new sensor.
