Many homes today have interior walls made of wall board, sheetrock or gypsum board. All three wall types are just pressed chalk between two sides of thick paper and are easily damaged. To repair a hole in the wallboard (or sheetrock or gypsum board) you only need a few minutes and a few common household tools. Draw a rectangle around the hole, with the edges of the rectangle at least 1 inch away from the hole on all sides. With the utility knife or wallboard saw; cut out the damaged part, using the rectangle shape as your guide. Make a 1″x 2″ wood brace to support the new patch piece of wall board by first measuring the width of the opening and then cutting a piece of 1×2 wood that is 4″ longer than the width of the opening.
