Repairing any pipe can be a difficult process, but repairing irrigation pipe is compounded because most pipe is underground. Once the leak is located, the process of repairing that leak is very straightforward. The most difficult part of repairing an irrigation leak can be finding the leak. The reason is because the leak may not appear on the surface for an extended time. Additionally, the location where the leaks shows on the surface can be as much as 10 feet from the actual location of the leak. Expose the portion of the pipe where the leak is located. The pipe needs to be exposed for at least 2 feet on each side of the leak. Additionally, the pipe needs to be exposed all the way around for 8 inches. Basically, the hole needs to be 8 inches deeper than the pipe. These precautions will help the pipe flex when installing the repair. Turn off the water supply to the system.
