A common place to find missing mortar is along the top of the last row of bricks. Set up the ladder at the highest point in need of repair. Always work from the top down. Mix mortar in a bucket. For this type of repair the mortar that comes with the sand already in it is preferred. Combine about 2 cups of mortar mix with water in a small bucket. Use a margin trowel to do this. You want the mortar mix to be the consistency of toothpaste. Climb the ladder with the bucket of mortar, margin trowel, tuck pointer and a flat screwdriver. It is best to have all the tools with you.
