Many things can leave burn marks on countertops: cigarettes, heat from pans and cooking or hair styling tools. Regardless of what caused the burn, you want it gone. But you must use the proper method for the type of countertop you are dealing with. Laminate Countertops Step 1 Fill the sink with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Dip a soft rag into the water and wring it out. Wipe down the damaged area with the rag. This will remove any surface discoloration.
