This article describes how to repair a broken plastic rim of sunglasses using a standard metal staple, avoiding the use of messy, ineffective glues. Please note that this is for a clean break around anywhere on the rim: the portion of the frame around sunglass lenses. This method has not be tried on the bridge, end pieces or hinges, but feel free to give it a go! Having broke the rim on my brand name, out of production, irreplaceable, favorite sunglasses in the world a few years ago, I struggled through short term repairs with every glue and epoxy known to human-kind. Finally I tried drilling tiny holes on each side of the break on the rim and securing using various “soft” fasteners from dental floss to surgical grade sutures. Although all failed after awhile, I knew I was on to something and decided to try a more “hard” fastener such as a metal staple.
