The turn signal switch in an Oldsmobile is integrated with a multi-function switch that is responsible for operating your windshield wipers, cruise control, light dimmers and your turn signal. When one component on this switch fails it is time to replace the whole unit. Replacing the unit will not take very much time. Removing the Turn Signal Switch Step 1 Open the hood for access to the battery. Disconnect the battery’s positive and negative terminals. Step 2 Remove the steering wheel shroud assembly. This is the plastic wrapped around the steering column. The housing is held by Phillips head screws. Step 3 Twist the turn signal lever forward and pull it out. Put it in a safe place for later installation. Step 4 Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the switch. The wires can be removed by pulling the tabs on the side of the connector and pulling until they’re free from the switch. Step 5 Unscrew the two screws holding the switch in place.
