The Maytag washer (used as an example here) is similar to most other brands, however there may be variances in how the control panel is removed. Step 1 Disconnect the power to the washing machine either by unplugging it or turning the circuit breaker off. Place a sheet over the top of the washing machine to prevent damage to the finish. Step 2 Remove the timer knob from the control panel by pulling it off the shaft with your fingers.
