There are complex inner mechanisms within grandfather clocks that run in synchronized motion within the clock casing. Near the face dial, there is a spring inside the clock that is wound with a key from the outside on the old antique clocks. Check the spring mechanism first before examining other parts of the clock. Sometimes the inner spring is broken, and the clock cannot be wound, thus ceasing to function properly. Set the clock mechanisms to “off,” and remove the spring. Examine it for any obvious damage. Use a clock servicing kit that comes with clock oil to oil the spring and pivot points within the clock. Sometimes old springs cease to work because they need to be oiled at least once every three years. Replace the spring with a new spring, if it cannot
