How Do You Repair A Spring-Wound Grandfather Clock?
Spring-wound grandfather clocks make a great addition to your home and can last for centuries. These timepieces have established a reputation of longevity and durability and usually require very little maintenance. Nonetheless, grandfather clocks are complex mechanisms that sooner or later will need some repairs. Fortunately, there is a systematic approach to repairing a grandfather clock yourself. Open the front face of the grandfather clock. Use a screwdriver to gently remove the glass face on the front of the clock so that you can access the hands. Service the hands on the clock face. The pendulum will not swing if the hands of the clock lock together. Carefully open the clock face and separate the hands from each other. Align the weights. Each weight in the grandfather clock must be correctly aligned for the clock to function correctly. The weights will be labeled on the bottom with either “right”, “left” or “center”.
