If you’ve noticed spots of oil (or worse) on the pavement under your car, you have an oil leak. Oil leaks from engines for two reasons – old or faulty gaskets and rust. PREPARATION: Lift the vehicle onto jack stands or ramps. Drain the oil, replace the plug. Wipe entire area to be repaired with a clean rag. Using a wire brush or even better, a wire wheel on an electric drill, clean the entire until you see metal. It will be rough and pockmarked. You should be able to see the pinholes where the oil has been leaking out by this stage.
