A Peerless shower faucet uses a cartridge insert to deliver hot and cold water to your tub. This insert has valves and seals monitoring water flow. When turned one way, the hot water valve opens and hot water flows; turned the other way, cold water flows out the faucet. To fix minor issues like leaks or uneven temperature performance, a replacement of this part is necessary. It involves only about 20 minutes of your time and a few special tools. Shut off the water. Take the handle off by finding the screw underneath the handle near the base. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove this screw, then pull off the handle by sliding it backward, off the fixture. Take the chrome sleeve and spacer off by hand and remove the bonnet, a round washer-like nut on the faucet. Use large pliers to remove this part if it is stuck, but apply only light pressure to avoid damaging the part. Remove the cartridge assembly, the only part remaining inside the faucet.
