How Do You Repair A Leaking Faucet?

Most faucet drips and leaks at the handle base are caused by worn parts in the faucet. While plumbing repairs are the things that cause many people to cringe (all that WATER!), there are basic repairs and replacements that you can safely do on your own – and stay dry. Sometimes these are just cosmetic or for convenience; sometimes they are due to leaks or breakage. Either way, the steps are the same. Step 1 Shut off the Water! Sinks will have shut offs under or behind them. Turn them off. Showers/tubs will usually be behind an adjoining wall (behind a panel in a closet, for example). Turn them off. Each water source (hot and/or cold) will have its own shutoff. Turn them off as you would any other faucet. If you can not find or turn the one you need, shut off the main water supply. Also, close the sink drain so nothing falls down there that you may need.
