How Do You Repair A Damaged Section Of Lap Siding?
Water damage can necessitate the repair of the wood lap siding on your home. This can happen mostly to those sections, or courses, that are closest to the ground. However, damage can occur to any level. Here’s how to repair damaged lap siding. Locate the nearest wall studs on either side of the section of lap siding you’re repairing. Mark them with a pencil. Slide wood shims under the damaged section to hold it out from the side of the house. Use a putty knife to score any caulking on either side of the board. Place a wood block beneath the damaged section of lap siding, centered under the spot where you will be cutting. Use a backsaw to make the cut as far up on the board as you can. Remove the shims and wedge them under the section above the damaged board. Finish the cut with a keyhole saw.
