How Do You Repair A Cracked Basement Wall?
A cracked basement wall oftentimes leads to a wet basement. The cracked basement wall can allow water to stream in. These cracks need to be repaired quickly and correctly in order to have a dry basement. Small cracks in a basement wall can be repaired without hiring a professional. If your basement wall is bowing in or leaning, that would be a job for a professional. A bowing wall or leaning basement wall can and usually does indicate structural damage to your foundation. Cracked basement walls can usually be repaired as long as there are only a few thin cracks rather than a spidering of cracks. Use an old flat head screw driver or chisel to make the crack slightly wider if the crack is very thin. Do not make the crack any wider if it is 1/4 of an inch wide or wider. If the crack is more than 2 inches wide, call a professional. Brush loose cement, dirt and debris out of the crack. An old paint brush works well. Spray the interior of the crack with a 50-50 mixture of bleach and water. T
