How Do You Repair A Ceramic Tile Wall?
A ceramic tiled wall that’s got loose, cracked or otherwise damaged tiles should be repaired right away to prevent further damage. The tiles on a tiled wall form a protective shield which, once breached, can allow moisture to get at the wall underneath, which in turn can lead to more loose or damaged tiles. Removing the tiles is the most difficult part, because you don’t want to damage the adjacent tiles or the wall. It takes some patience and persistence. Remove the grout around the damaged tile, digging it out with your grout saw, which is a straight carbide blade on a handle. Scrape at the surface of the grout lines with the saw until the grout starts to break out; then continue digging down. (Don’t damage neighboring tiles or the wall underneath.) Set the end of your putty knife into one of the dug-out grout lines, with the knife’s edge pressing the base of the tile. Tap the back end of the knife with your hammer.
