How Do You Repair A Basketball Backboard?
Play on an outdoor basketball rim long enough and at some point it is bound to crack or break. It doesn’t help that it’s usually left outdoors to face the elements. Fixing your fiberglass backboard, however, can be a fairly easy process. Lower the backboard either by setting it on its side or loosening the u-bolts holding it to the pole on a permanent structure. Cut the area around the track with the utility knife so it makes a thin v-shape where the crack was. This will make it easier to apply the epoxy and give it somewhere to grip. Take the file and rough up the edges inside the v-shape you made with the knife. This will increase the hold the epoxy has on the backboard and help it adhere better. Wipe out the crack with the cloth to get rid of any dirt, dust or fiberglass that may be in the gouge and could compromise the hold of the epoxy. Add the epoxy in the crack as directed on the tube and smooth it out so that it’s level with the surface of the backboard. Let it dry completely a
