There is a method using rock salt that will remove wine stains from your crystal decanter without harming the crystal. Pour around 2 full cups of rock salt into the wine stained crystal decanter. Be sure that you pour slowly, allowing a little at a time gently flow into the container. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the crystal decanter on top of the rock salt. Don’t worry if the vinegar splashes on the inside of the container. It won’t hurt the crystal material. Lift the crystal decanter and lightly swish the rock salt and vinegar mixture around.
