Sometimes Windows updates will install the latest versions of software automatically unless you change your settings. Learn to remove Windows Media Player 11 from Windows XP and keep it from being automatically installed again. Step 1 Click on your Start menu and select “Restart.” Step 2 Hold the “F8” key while the computer is restarting to access safe-mode. Click “Safe-Mode” and press “Enter” when prompted. Step 3 Wait for Windows XP to start in safe mode. Step 4 Click on your Start menu and select “Run.” Type “appwiz.cpl” and select “OK.” Step 5 Select “Windows Media Player 11” and select “Remove.” Click “Next” and follow the prompts to remove Windows Media Player 11.
