Unless you’re recording in a studio, it’s likely that you are going to have to deal with some degree of white noise, but you can remove white noise from an MP3 file using the open-source, multi-platform software, Audacity. Download Audacity from the SourceForge Audacity website (see Resources). Audacity comes in PC, Mac and Linux versions. Install Audacity on your computer. Open Audacity. Select “File” and “Open” to open your MP3 file in Audacity. Identify a portion of your MP3 file that contains only white noise and no other sounds. The first two seconds of a recording are likely to be white noise. Select that portion of the MP3 file by clicking your mouse at the beginning and dragging it to the two second mark. Click “Effect” and then “Noise Removal” to open the Noise Removal window. Select “Get Noise Profile.” This tells Audacity that the se
