Sisal rugs are durable and long-lasting. However, they can be difficult to clean, particularly if yours have developed water spots over the years. Once a sisal rug has absorbed the water, the only hope you have of removing it is to wash the entire rug. This can often diminish the impact of the water spot, or even remove it entirely. Fill your bucket about 2/3 of the way with hot water. Then add three drops of mild liquid soap and use the rag to swirl it around. You do not need to create suds. Test a small portion of your rug. In a spot that can be covered if necessary, clean the top and the bottom of the rug with your cleaning solution. Do not scrub with great pressure, or you will force moisture into the fibers of the rug. Just rub the top and underside lightly before allowing the area to dry. Determine if the result is acceptable to you in terms of color and appearance before moving on. Wash the entire bottom of the rug. Cleaning a sisal from the bottom can not only help keep it clea
