When it is time to redecorate a room or two in your home, the project sometimes entails removal of wallcoverings, which the average homeowner can accomplish with a few tools and time. This project, well worth doing yourself and saving the cost of a professional, can be messy. But with proper preparation can be accomplished without too many problems. Allowing the time for the wallpaper to soak before trying to remove it requires patience but is necessary to do a proper job. Remove as much furniture from the room as possible and move pieces that cannot be moved out from the wall. Turn off the power to the room and remove switch and outlet covers. Use duct tape to cover telephone jacks. Cover the floor with drop cloths. Run a scoring tool over the wallcovering to perforate the outer part of the wall covering.
