How Do You Remove Very Old Gasoline From An Automobile Gas Tank?
Removing very old gasoline from an automobile gas tank must be done before running the engine. Old gasoline may not detonate properly if it has degraded inside the gas tank. Moisture and rust have likely mixed with the gasoline, producing a highly contaminated mixture that could seriously damage the engine. For this reason, you’ll need to use a vacuum pump to get that old gas out of the tank. Open the gas tank door. Slide one end of the pump’s tubing down into the gas tank filler neck until it bottoms out inside the tank. Place the other end of the pump’s tubing into a catch pan designed for gasoline storage. Begin pumping the pump to create vacuum pressure. This will siphon the gasoline out of the tank and into the catch pan. Remove the tubing from the gas tank when it is no longer drawing gasoline out of the tank. Pour in 8 oz of dry gasoline.
