How Do You Remove Unused Screensavers From XP?

0

Windows XP comes with pre-installed screensaver files. It also allows you to install third-party screensavers from the web. XP considers the default screensavers to be part of the operating system and automatically replaces the files if you delete them. To permanently remove them from your computer, you must access the folder with backup screensaver files. Step 1 Double-click the “My Computer” icon on your desktop or click on the “Start” menu and select “My Computer.” Step 2 Double-click the “C:” drive, then the “Windows” folder, then “System32” folder and finally, “dllcache.” Step 3 Locate the screensaver files you want to delete (with “.scr” file extension) and delete them. Step 4 Navigate to the “System32” folder and delete the same screensaver files. Step 5 Click on “Cancel” and then on “No” in the automatic “Windows File Protection” pop-up window to prevent the system from requesting an XP CD to replace the deleted files. Step 6 Close all windows.
