Bitmap files do not have the ability to store a transparent background. Adobe Photoshop can be used to remove the white background in a bitmap (.bmp file), and can then export it to a format that does support transparency. This article also covers layers in Photoshop so that you can undo your work if you make a mistake. Open the bitmap you want to edit in Photoshop. Bring up the “Layers” palette. It should be visible on the right of the Photoshop work area; if it isn’t, go to the “View” menu and select “Layers” from the item. Go to the “Layers” palette.
