Access to the tub parts and inside cabinet components can be tricky on some Sear clothes washers. Most washer cabinets come off in one piece. If your Sears washer has an emblem on the front, the top of the washer will release from the unit. The top of a Sears washer is similar to most dryer tops when it comes to removal. However unlike a dryer, the Sears washer uses a Torx screw along with three retaining clips to secure the top to the front panels. Unplug the Sears washer power cord from the wall outlet. Turn the water supply spigots off at the wall. Pull the washer 3 feet away from the back wall. If necessary, place a bucket under the supply hoses where they connect to the back of the washer. Disconnect the hoses and lay the hose ends in the bucket. Insert a small flathead screwdriver between the Sears emblem and the washer cabinet on the front of the washer.
