If you own a Maytag washer and it does not seem to be advancing through the wash cycle, you may have a faulty timer. The timer on a Maytag washer controls the fill, agitation and spin cycles of the washer. It is necessary to know how to remove the timer from a Maytag washer if your timer is failing. Once you have the timer removed you can take it to an appliance repair store to purchase a replacement. Unplug the Maytag washer from the wall outlet. Place a sheet over the top of the washer to protect the finish while you are working on the timer. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the three screws on the top of the control panel. Flip the front of the control panel forward to access the inside of the control panel. Locate the black plastic tab that is behind the timer control knob.
