Want to remove the smell of urine from a mattress? Really remove it, not just mask it with air freshener or spray it with chemicals that you’ll breathe all night? As a parent of three, this is my tried and tested method for always getting the stink out! Depending on the size of the affected area, take one to two cups of Borax and place it in the plastic container. Add five to ten drops of essential oil to the mixture and shake the container vigorously to break up the “clumps” caused by the oil and distribute them more evenly. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Take the lid back off the container, and using either a corkscrew or a nail, CAREFULLY poke twenty or so holes in the top of the lid. Don’t poke yourself – you don’t have any deodorizing properties! Put the lid back on the container, and grab your water bottle! Remove all bedding from the mattress, and mist it liberally with tap water from the water bottle.
