The braking system of your vehicle is comprised of the brake pads, which do the stopping, and the brake rotors, which the pads clamp onto in order to slow the vehicle. Over time, the pads will wear grooves into the surface of the rotors. When the brake pads are swapped out, the rotors should be inspected and resurfaced or replaced. Lift up the front of the vehicle using the jack and secure it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is completely secure on the jack stands before you crawl underneath it. Remove the front wheels using the tire iron and place them to the side, out of the workspace. Unbolt the caliper from the caliper-mounting bracket on the front steering knuckle using a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then support it using a metal hook on the strut of the car to relieve pressure on the brake line.
