BMW offers a wide variety of audio options for their cars, trucks and “SAVs” (Sport Activity Vehicles). There may come a time when a BMW owner needs to remove the factory-installed stereo, whether to make repairs, add aftermarket components or replace the unit with another stereo deck. BMW stereo removal can be done without much car audio experience. Doing it yourself will save you the time and expense of taking the vehicle to a stereo professional. Step 1 Under the hood, disconnect the grounding cable from the negative lead of the BMW battery. Use a 10 millimeter wrench to loosen the clamp connected to the negative battery lead. Remove the cable from the negative lead completely. Replace the clamp when your work is finished or if you need to operate the vehicle before replacing the stereo.
