The base plate of the Hayward Aquabug covers the cleaner’s turbine and motor assemblies and holds them in place. The only moving parts on the base plate are the bumper and the swivel wheels, called rollers. The bumper assembly allows the Aquabug to get out of corners and away from obstacles in the pool, such as the ladder and steps. Here’s how to remove the base plate. Turn the Aquabug upside down on the work bench, and remove the 5 stainless steel screws holding the bottom assembly to the rest of the cleaner. Put all the screws in a container to keep them together as you remove them. Pull the bottom assembly away from the cleaner body to expose the base plate, and set the bottom assembly aside. Observe that there are 6 stainless steel screws holding the base plate in place, three in a row on each side. Remove all 6 screws and put them into the container. Lift off the base plate assembly. The base plate, rollers and bumper assembly come out as one unit. Set the rest of the Aquabug asid
