How do you remove tear stains from a white faced dog?

There are many products to remove these stains, some work better than others. I can’t recall which one is best and I’m sorry. However, might I add that if you give your dog spring water these stains will not appear, it’s from the chemicals and minerals in tap water. My only guess about the vinegar (yuck) is that it might neutralize these chemicals in the water. I don’t think drinking vinegar water could be beneficial to their digestive tract.

There is not a real true way to do this, there are allot of products that will guarantee and even home remedies but they do not work, Your dog needs to be on a regular grooming schedule and tell your groomer to use a 30 blade to clean out the hair away from the eyes. Dogs with inverted eye lashes will tear allot check with your vet to see if he/she has them there is corrective surgery for this but also regular grooming to keep hair away from eyes helps too! If you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me.

I have a Maltese, which is all white, and there are several things you can do to reduce tearstaining. It is ok to put a drop of apple cider vinegar in your dog’s water, but just a drop. Angel Eyes is a good product for tearstains. Just sprinkle a bit in his food in the amount that is appropriate for your dog. My dog actually likes it and will eat it like a treat. It also depends on what you’re feeding your dog. Some ingredients in some dog foods are known to cause allergies in many dogs, which also can cause them to stain more. Put your dog on a good holistic food if you haven’t already and try to avoid ingredients like corn, dairy, soy…if you think your dog may be allergic to them. I also don’t feed my dog anything with animal by-products cause that’s just gross, but I’m not sure that has much to do with the staining it’s just my preference 🙂 Clean your dog’s face at least once a week and make sure to get rid of the eye bugers. I usually clean my Maltese’s face every day. Also make

Vinegar can work, but it can also make some dogs sick. Another such remedy that is less likely to make the dog sick and is just as effective (keep in mind that both take several months to completely wipe it out) is feeding your dog a couple frozen peas everyday. If you really want a perfect fix, research a product called Angel Eyes. It works very, very well. It isn’t cheap though, and it too takes a while to be completely successful. Any solution would involove you clipping out the existing stained hair though, as it is infact stained and cannot be cleaned.
