Swimming pool stains come in many forms. They are either organic or metallic in nature. Organic stains are left by debris such as leaves, and are brown or green in color. Metallic stains are left by high copper content in the water or rusted pool equipment, and are yellow in color. Both types of stains require a specific treatment for their proper removal. Organic stains are easier to remove. Scrub the stained area vigorously to expose its top layer. This makes it more vulnerable to treatment. Shock the pool. High chlorine levels kill organic stains and make them much easier to remove. Mix your pool shock with water in a 5 gallon bucket and pour the mix into the pool water. Concentrate most of the mixture near the stains. Scrub the treated stained area. Scrub the stained area four to six hours after shocking until the area is free of the stain.
