If that ugly brown surface rust on the car bumpers, your chrome rims, lug nuts or maybe your chrome faucet in the bathroom has you down, I’m here to tell you that there is an easy way to remove it. Unfortunately, if the rust has eaten below the chrome finish, this treatment will not work. Also, confirm you are working with a true chrome finish and not just metal painted with chrome colored paint. Clean the chrome with basic soap and water so you can clearly see the rust areas to be worked on. Dab some polish/cleaner onto the steel wool pad and also dab some on the chrome itself, over the rusted area. The object is that the area to be cleaned is wet with the polish. Start gently rubbing the rusted area in circular motions with your steel wool pad. As the pad becomes dry add a little more polish to it, never rubbing the surface if it or the pad is dry. You don’t need to much pressure, let the steel wool do the work. Much better to go over the same area additional times rather than to put
