Satin was originally made strictly from silk. Nowadays while silk satin does exist, most satin fabrics are a blend of polyester. Satin is a common fabric for wedding dresses, wedding shoes, drapes, lingerie and upholstery. Several different types of satin exist, such as crepeback satin, antique satin, duchesse satin and slipper satin. White satin is difficult but not impossible to clean. You should always address a stain on satin immediately. Fill the basin with cool water. Add 1/2 cup detergent in to the water. Mix the water and detergent together with your hand until they are well combined. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and dab at the stain on your satin object. Follow the grain of the fabric as you dab. Be careful not to over-saturate the fabric. Pat the stain area with a dry cotton ball to prevent watermarks. This is particularly important for white satin.
