How Do You Remove Sprinkler Rust Stains?
Sprinkler heads are prone to rusting because of the calcium deposits naturally found in the water system. Because sprinkler heads also made of cast iron, the constant contact with chemically treated water accelerates corrosion and rusting. Severe rusting on sprinkler heads will inhibit the system’s ability to properly irrigate a lawn or garden. Remove rust from sprinkler heads with rust remover if water is spurting out with unusual pressure patterns or movements. Wear gloves and googles to protect your hands and eyes from harsh chemicals. Scrub the sprinkler head with a wire brush to loosen the hardened rust. Apply rust remover to the sprinkler head according to the manufacturer’s directions. The rust remover will dissolve the rust without having to scrub off the gel. Do not let the chemical sit too longer on the sprinkler head or it will start to eat away at the metal. Refer to the directions on the label for the time limit. Rinse the sprinkler head with water and dry off with a cloth
