How Do You Remove Silvering With Photoshop?
Going through old black-and-white photographs and scanning them to share with family and friends can be fun and rewarding, but older photos sometimes need considerable restoration to look their best. One common problem with black-and-white pictures that have been stored for long periods of time is the emergence of silvering—a foggy layer that covers parts of the image. This occurs when oxidization rises to the photo’s surface. Silvering usually has a bluish or greenish tint to it and can often be effectively removed by rephotographing the image and editing it in Photoshop. Take a digital picture of the black-and-white photograph. Reposition any lights you have on in the room and experiment with placing the original photo at different angles. Find a combination that produces as little glare as possible and obscures the silvering. Plug your camera into your computer and save the new photograph to your desktop. Open Photoshop, go to the menu at the top of the screen and locate “File.” R
