Step 1 The first step is to isolate the area from all the other carpeting. Drape an old towel around the area and form a circle locking the area away. Step 2 Next silly putty has the same bases as most chewing gum. That being said there are many ways to approach the issue with solvents, home remedies, or just elbow grease. Step 3 Goo- gone is a product with an oily base that can be spread out to coat the effected area and little bits will come up as the area is rubbed. It is suppose to break down the stain or item until it loses its sticky qualities.
