Sharpies, like other permanent markers, seem to be synonymous with stains. There are many options for trying to remove sharpie stains from plastic and which option you choose should be based on the sensitivity of the plastic item you are trying to clean. The key to getting sharpie marker off of plastic is cleaning the item as quickly as possible. Spread a layer of white toothpaste over the stain. Insure that your layer is not to thin. You should not be able to see the stain at all. Make sure you are not using the gel toothpastes that are common on the market. Let the toothpaste sit on the stain for at least five minutes. This will give the toothpaste time to begin lifting the stain. Scrub the stain with an old toothbrush. Scrub in a circular motion until the stain has been lifted. Wipe the remaining toothpaste away with a wet cloth. Pour a small amount of acetone on a white washcloth. Make sure you do this over a sink so that any spills do not ruin other surfaces. Gently wipe the stain
